Rene Izquierdo

Rene IzquierdoRene Izquierdo, a native from Cuba, graduated from the Guillermo Tomas, Amadeo Roldan Conservatory and Superior Institute of Art in Havana. In the United States, Mr. Izquierdo earned a Master of Music and an Artist Diploma degrees from the Yale University School of Music, where he studied with Benjamin Verdery. While at Yale he represented the university in an exchange program with the Conservatoire National de Musique et de Danse du Paris and worked with guitarists Olivie Chassain and Roland Dyens. Rene has appeared as a guest soloist and in chamber music concerts throughout the United States, Cuba and Europe. He has shared the stage with prestigious guitarists including Eliot Fisk, Benjamin Verdery and Jorge Morel, as well as renowned flutist Ransom Wilson, soprano Lucy Shelton, David Jolley and Paquito d’Rivera. Renowned composers such as Jorge Morel and Carlos R. Rivera have dedicated works to him.

Mr. Izquierdo is a recipient of numerous awards. He is a winner of JoAnn Falletta International Guitar Competition in 2004, Extremadura International Guitar Competition, Schadt String competition, Stotsenberg International Guitar Competition among others.

He is currently a professor of classical guitar at the Wisconsin State University in Milwaukee and an active solo performer and chamber musician. Rene has studied with Leo Brouwer, David Russell, Shin-Ichi Fukuda, Eli Kassner, Pepe Romero, Angel Romero, Carlos Barbosa-Lima, David Starobin, Eduardo Fernandez, Jorge Morel, Robert Beaser and Anthony Newman among others.


Isaac Bustos 

Isaac bustos“Soulful and virtually flawless,” hails the Portland Oregonian and the Boston Globe writes, “In warm, round tones, the notes of Bach cascaded from the guitar, every note correct and played without hesitation.” Classical guitarist, pedagogue and educator Isaac Bustos, enjoys an extensive performing career that has taken him to Canada, Central America, Europe and all over the US. Dr. Bustos has made several Radio and Television appearances and is in demand as clinician and master class teacher invited to perform in some of the most prestigious festivals including the Guitar Foundation of America Annual Convention, Portland Guitar Festival, St. Joseph International Guitar Festival, Southwest Guitar Festival, Brownsville Guitar Festival, Classical Minds Festival, Festival Internacional de Guitarra Monterrey, Festival Ramon Noble and Festival del Noreste in Mexico. Isaac has also appeared as soloist with the Orchestra of New Spain, The Baytown Symphony Orchestra, The Nicaraguan National Symphony Orchestra and the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Maestro JoAnn Falletta.

Isaac holds an impressive number of top prizes in over 12 major international competitions, 7 of which are first prizes. Some of these include: the Miami International Guitar Competition, Texas International Guitar Competition, Lachine International Guitar Competition, St. Joseph International Solo Guitar Competition, Portland Solo Guitar Competition, East Carolina University Solo Guitar Competition, Appalachian State University Solo Guitar Competition, International JoAnn Falletta Concerto Competition, Columbus State University Solo Guitar Competition, Southwest International Guitar Competition, Boston Guitar Fest International Guitar Competition and the prestigious Concurso Internacional Guitarras Alhambra held in Valencia, Spain.

In the fall of 2008, Isaac released his debut CD titled Caprichos y Sonatas which Soundboard magazine described as “…one of the best…it has everything one could want.” In addition, Bustos has performed several premieres of new music for guitar. Most recently, works by composers Peter Askim for solo guitar, Andrew Dickinson for four guitars, a work for two guitars and electronic sound effects by Jeremy Cumbo and “After Sylvius” a solo guitar work written for Isaac by composer/guitarist Frank Wallace. In the summer of 2010, Bustos premiered a new guitar Sonata commissioned and dedicated to him by renowned American Composer Peter Lieuwen.

Isaac holds a Bachelor of Music degree in guitar performance from the University of New Hampshire, where he was the only guitarist to ever hold a full scholarship, a Master of Music degree from the University of Texas at Austin where he also completed a Doctor of Musical Arts degree under the tutelage of world-renowned American guitarist Adam Holzman. Bustos is also a founding member of and performs regularly with the award-winning Texas Guitar Quartet.

As an educator, his commitment to teaching is reflected in the success of his students whose prize-winning performances have included the Eastfield Guitar Festival and competition, The Brownsville Guitar Ensemble Competition, the Classical Minds Guitar Competition, the Houston Young Artist, the East Carolina University Competition, The Rosario Competition, the Appalachian State Competition, The Boston Guitar Fest International Competition and the Guitar Foundation of America International Youth Competition. Since 2005, Dr. Bustos serves on the faculty at Texas A&M University Department of Performance Studies where he is head of guitar studies and artistic director of the Texas A&M International Guitar Symposium and Competition.


Rafael Padron

PadronCuban born guitarist, Rafael Padrón, began studying the guitar at the age of eleven. He attended the National School of Art in Havana, Cuba, where he completed his studies with the distinguished Argentinean teacher and performer, Victor Pellegrini. In 1986, he was awarded a scholarship to study at the Advanced Institute of Art in Havana, where he graduated with a degree in music in 1991, receiving the “Student of High Achievement” award. He has studied in Master Classes with such artists as composer Leo Brouwer, guitarists Maria Luisa Anido, Alvaro Pierri, Costa Cotsiolis and David Russell.

Mr. Padrón has won top prizes in many national and international competitions, among them the Best Interpretation of Latin American Music in Havana; The Diploma of Honor at the International Classical Guitar Competition in Chile; a top prize at the National Guitar Competition in Havana and winner of the Montpelier Cultural Arts Center Recital Series Competitions in United States of America.

He has been featured in festivals like the International Festival of the Guitar in Havana, Cuba; The International Festival of Music of the Hatillo in Caracas, Venezuela, where he premiered Leo Brouwer’s Concerto for Guitar and Orchestra No. 3, “Elegíaco”; The International Guitar Festival in Costa Rica were he premiered Leo Brouwer’s Suite “From Yesterday to Penny Lane”; The International Festival of the Guitar in Panama, The International Music Festival in Costa Rica and The Festival Iberoamericano de Guitarra, Tenerife, Spain, Rust International Guitar Festival and Competition, Rust, Austria, and Brno International Guitar Festival, Czech Republic.

Rafael Padrón has performed both solo and with orchestras in various cities in Cuba, Chile, Venezuela, Costa Rica, Japan, Spain and in the United States of America. He has performed as a soloist with the Symphony Orchestra of Matanzas, Cuba; the Grand Marshall of Ayacucho Symphony Orchestra of Venezuela; the Chamber Orchestra of Caracas, Venezuela; the Camerata Latinoamericana of Costa Rica,The Independence Symphony Orchestra in Costa Rica and with The Panamerican Symphony Orchestra of Washington D.C.

Mr. Padrón has taught classical guitar at the Jose Antonio and Carmen Calcaño Foundation of Caracas, Venezuela; at the National University of Heredia, Costa Rica; the Costa Rica University of San Jose,Costa Rica; The Paco de Malaga Guitar Gallery in Washington D.C.; The Olenka Music School, Columbia, Maryland, and The Levine School in Washington D.C. Mr. Padrón graduated from the Peabody Conservatory at the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD, where he has completed his Graduate Performance Diploma on a full scholarship, under the tutelage of world-renowned guitarist Manuel Barrueco. Mr. Padron accomplished his Masters Degree Diploma at the University of Miami in December 2005.

Currently, he is the chair of the Guitar Program at the University of Miami Frost School of Music.


Federico Musgrove

Federico Musgrove Federico, born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, started playing guitar at the age of twelve. In 2001, he moved to Miami, Florida and decided to pursue a career in music. Although having been trained as an electric guitarist, he decided to focus on classical guitar. In 2007, he graduated from the University of Miami where he completed his Bachelor’s Degree in Music performance.

As a student, he has played in Master Classes for artists such as Denis Azabagic, Manuel Barrueco, Margarita Escarpa, Máximo Diego Pujol, Berta Rojas, and Hopkinson Smith to name a few.

In 2011, Federico became the first student to earn a Master’s Degree in classical guitar performance from Florida International University, where he studied with Rafael Padrón. Although the guitar represents his biggest passion, his interest in music took him in different directions. Besides studying jazz guitar, and performing with the Gold Coast Opera, he also holds a diploma in Audio Technology from the SAE Institute, one of the most recognized centers in music production and sound engineering.

His most recent performances include solo recitals, appearances with the Miami Guitar Trio, the FIU Symphony Orchestra, and the New World Symphony. Mr. Musgrove is currently pursuing his Doctor of Musical Arts Degree at the University of Miami under a full scholarship and Teaching Assistantship.

Federico is currently the head guitar instructor at Music Instruction Specialists, and faculty at the Miami Conservatory of Music. Also, he is founding President and Executive Director of the Florida Guitar Foundation.
